Just a Minute
I listen on CD to the most wonderful radio show called "just a minute". This is a yearly collection of the best of the weekly radio shows on bbc radio.
The idea of the game is for one of the four contestants to speak about a random subject given to them by the chairman of the game, nicholas parsons, for one minute. This must be done without repetition (ie saying the same word twice) deviation (talking about something other than the subject matter) or hesitation (um-ing and ah-ing)
It is hilarious as the contestants have to ramble on and on about some obscure topic and the other contestants must listen carefully and interupt (with a bell)if there is any repetition etc.
For example, i am currently listening to them talking about "green fingers" and they are describing all kinds of gardening projects, none of which are in the slightest bit interesting but the challenge of trying to talk about a subject you are given with just a few seconds notice is fascinating.
The contestants must be extremely intelligent in order to pull this off. (Just try it yourself and you will see how difficult this is). It also helps that these contestants are mostly comedians.
I thoroughly recommend listening to these CD's if you want to totally forget your troubles. Absorbing and great fun.
