the first living creature in space
On 3rd November 1957, the very first living thing (so far as we know) to be put into space was a dog called "Laika". Unfortunately, she did not return and died whilst orbiting the earth due to overheating (there was an insulation problem). If she had not died from overheating, her food on board was, in any event, poisoned. Incidentally, "Laika" is Russian for "Barker". |
